Internships

The National Women’s Health Network offers two different kinds of internships. The Helen Rodriquez-Trias Women’s Health Leadership Internship is aimed at developing young leaders in the realm of reproductive health and focuses on managing health information requests from our members and the public. The Technical Design Internship is focused on helping the Network fulfill graphic design needs which enable us to make more of our health resources web accessible. The Helen Rodriguez-Trias Women's Health Leadership Program

The National Women's Health Network seeks to develop the next generation of women's health activists by providing hands on experience in the field of women's health policy and advocacy. Becoming a Network intern allows you to develop health research skills while exploring the worlds of public policy, health education, and feminist organizing.
The internship experience at the Network is a unique one. Interns' contributions are essential to the workings of the Network. Typical internship responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and drafting comprehensive responses to the questions that women send in to the Women’s Health Voice.
  • Developing health education materials.
  • Attending a wide variety of out-of-office meetings, including Congressional briefings, Senatorial hearings, and educational forums hosted by other organizations.
  • Learning about and exploring countless women's health topics.
  • Managing the Network’s blogs on MySpace and Facebook, and contributing to outside blogs.
  • Researching and writing articles on emerging young women's health issues for the Network's newsletter.

Internships are available year round and typically last 10-12 weeks. Internships are full time and interns work 32-hours per week between the hours of 9AM to 5:30PM. Fall and spring interns receive a stipend of $160/week. Summer interns are NOT paid.

Internships are made available by the financial support of the Coleman Foundation, the Eunice Corfman Internship Fund, and individual donors.

  • Resume
  • Writing sample (No longer than 4 pages and it can be an excerpt of a longer piece.)
  • Cover letter (It should explain your interest in women's health and why you want to work for the Network. It should NOT be a generic cover letter used to apply to multiple internships.)

In your cover letter, please indicate when you are seeking to do your internship. Be as specific as possible when listing your requested internship dates.

Internship decisions are made on a rolling basis so it is best to apply early. For those wishing to intern during the summer term, complete application materials must be received by March 15th, 5:00 PM (EST).

INTERNS HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR THE MONTHS OF JANUARY THROUGH JUNE 2010.   Summer applicants who can intern for at least 8 weeks beginning in July 2010 will be given preference.

Technical Design Internship

The National Women's Health Network is seeking a tech-savvy, self-starting, problem solving guru to join our team of interns. Candidates must be adept at using the Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Professional on a Mac platform. Strong preference will be given to candidates with previous graphic design experience. This unpaid internship is a great opportunity to enhance an existing portfolio while working with a national women's advocacy group. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to the Health Information Coordinator at nwhn@nwhn.org with the subject line labeled 'tech internship'. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
