I’m so impressed by the wonderful women’s health supporters in Louisiana fighting to expand access to health care for hundreds of thousands more people. A strong coalition of women’s and consumer health activists persuaded the Louisiana legislature to hold a hearing tomorrow (May 6th at 9:30am) on a Medicaid Expansion bill that could close the health insurance coverage gap. This bill (SB 10) would let the people decide by making a constitutional amendment that directs the Department of Health & Hospitals (DHH) to offer health insurance with essential health benefits to every legal resident of Louisiana with income at or below 138% of the federal poverty level.
The Raising Women’s Voices (RWV) Regional Coordinators in Louisiana, Women with a Vision and the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies need your help to support their fight to expand Medicaid – and today has huge potential. If you have been working diligently on this issue, we thank you. If not, here is your chance. Please take a minute now and call or email members of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee asking them for their support of Medicaid expansion to afford over 242,000 low income adults health insurance coverage. ASK THEM TO LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE.
The Committee List is as follows:
|If this bill passes, Louisiana would be one step closer to closing the coverage gap and expand Medicaid for more than 138,000 uninsured women – that’s huge! Please take a moment NOW to call in support of Medicaid expansion in Louisiana.|
