Pelvic Exam
Question: I had a hysterectomy in 2012. One doctor told me I would only need a pelvic exam every 3-5 years, while another doctor said that I still need yearly pelvic exams. Is there a lower risk of ovarian cancer…
Your uterus is not the only part of the body examined during a pelvic exam. In addition to the uterus, a doctor will also examine the vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum and pelvis for any abnormalities. Depending on the type of hysterectomy you received, other areas may still need to be examined during a pelvic exam.
