Healthy Aging Month

September is recognized as Healthy Aging Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the physical and mental health of older adults. This health observance highlights the importance of understanding how our minds and bodies evolve with age and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to manage these changes and prevent common age-related health issues.

  • NIH Healthy Aging Events – Sign up for special activities and events featuring longevity, healthy aging, and steps everyone can take to stay independent as they age.

National Sexual Health Awareness Month

National Sexual Health Month, observed in September, promotes awareness and education about sexual health. This health observance emphasizes the importance of healthy sexual relationships and informed decision-making.

  • Planned Parenthood Sexual Health Hub – Get resources on various sexual and reproductive health topics, including: birth control, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationships, and more, along with educational materials for teens, parents, and educators here. 
  • The Trevor Project LGBTQ+-Friendly Resources for Sexual Health Support – Access a variety of LGBTQ+-inclusive resources for sexual health support, including information on safer sex practices, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), consent, dating, and specific health resources for LGBTQ+ youth.
  • HHS.gov Reproductive Health Services and Resources – Get information on reproductive health services and resources, including access to family planning clinics, STI testing and prevention, reproductive rights, and support for pregnant and parenting teens, and tools for finding local clinics and programs.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month  

Approximately 300,000 women in the U.S. are currently living with ovarian cancer, according to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance data. Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, observed in September, aims to increase awareness of ovarian cancer, promote early detection, and support research efforts to improve treatment and survival rates.

Gynecological Cancer Month

According to the American Cancer Society, each year, about 112,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with gynecological cancers, which include cancers of the ovaries, uterus, cervix, vulva, and vagina. Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month is observed in September to increase public awareness about the signs, symptoms, and prevention of gynecological cancers. This health observance aims to promote early detection and improve outcomes through education and advocacy.
