Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Some dementia symptoms in older women such as delirium or confusion may actually be caused by the cumulative effect of taking certain over-the-counter drugs, or even by urinary tract infections.
A UTI is an infection in the urinary system. The infection can be in the bladder, where urine is stored (cystitis); in the urethra, the tube from the bladder out of the body (urethritis); or in the kidneys (nephritis).
UTI: an infection in the urinary system (your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra). Most infections involve the lower urinary tract (the bladder and the urethra). Urinary tract infections are more common in women.
Your uterus is not the only part of the body examined during a pelvic exam. In addition to the uterus, a doctor will also examine the vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum and pelvis for any abnormalities. Depending on the type of hysterectomy you received, other areas may still need to be examined during a pelvic exam.
